
The Sekyere Cassava and Vegetables Producers Association is a farmer based organization engaged in the production and processing of cassava into gari for export. Membership of the association stand at seventy (70) this is made up of sixty (60) women and ten (10) men. The project primarily is to alleviate poverty among the rural community and farmers within the catchment areas and also to avoid post harvest losses of produce.
The association applied and received a grant facility from EDIF to support the establishment of a Cassava Processing factory at Yonso in the Sekyere West District of Ashanti to produce Cassava products for home consumption and export.
The grant obtained from EDIF enabled the association attain its vision of ensuring the transformation of the district’s economic and farming activities by the establishment of a Gari processing plant together with back up logistics for efficient operation.
The factory commenced production on 03 September 2005 and has since been awarded a prize for being the best Agro processing facility in the district at the Sekyere West District Farmers day celebration on 02 December 2005.
Farming being the major economic activity of the district urges the association to transform the economic and farming activities of the community as a whole by creating wealth for individual farmers by providing them with an assured market for their produce for value addition through processing.
